Past Event Off the Wall 2011: The Blow with Melissa Dyne
Performing artist and pop-musician Khaela Maricich (aka The Blow) returns to The Warhol with a body of songs and a show to accompany them, riding the border and exploring the territory between pop concert and performance piece. The current work is a collaboration with international installation artist Melissa Dyne, who specializes in manipulating environments with the phenomena of light and sound. Moving through spaces created by Dyne’s sonic and visual layering, Maricich works through a narrative that deals with creating demos for a certain tabloid-friendly actress who is looking to gain indie-pop cred. According to a recent New York Times review of the show at Joe’s Pub (Public Theater), “They were terrific, the new songs, believable as identity-bending pop from a fallen celebrity, or as deeply felt parody or as chipper performance art.”
