We work with teens to foster leadership through creativity, taking a cue from Warhol’s art and practice.

Youth Arts Council

Youth Arts Council is a yearlong leadership program that invites a small team of high school students from across Pittsburgh to go behind the scenes, collaborate with museum staff and artists, create art, and develop public programs and events for other teens. Youth Arts Council participants receive stipends, gain professional experience working in a museum, and learn new skills and techniques.

Applications for the 2023-24 school year are now closed.

Youth Fashion Workshops & Fashion Show

Join us for an evening of glamour, style, and sustainability at our teen curated fashion show. Runway looks will feature repurposed, reimagined, and recycled garments and accessories created by teens. This event will highlight the completed works of participants from our 6 week teen fashion workshops, as well as innovative looks by teens in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Applications for the Fashion Workshops will open in Summer 2024.

 

Teen DJ Academy with Tech25

Learn to build and blend your own remixes that will get everyone on the dance floor!  Presented in partnership with Tech 25, the Teen DJ Academy is a 12-week workshop series taught by professional live and touring DJs.  Participants will get hands-on experience with pro gear and perform at Youth Invasion, Community Day and LGBTQ+ Prom.  Participants must attend a minimum of 9 out of 12 workshops in order to perform.  This program is free and participants will earn a stipend for the 12 week program plus an additional stipend per performance.  Space is limited.  Email teens@warhol.org to sign up. Participants must be ages 13-18.

Youth Invasion

Teens take over The Warhol! Planned by and for teens, Youth Invasion is an annual spring celebration that invites young artists, performers, and designers to transform the entire museum with their creative energy. Get involved with planning as part of the Youth Arts Council, or apply to be a performer and showcase your talents.

LGBTQ+ Youth Prom

The Warhol hosts an annual LGBTQ+ Youth Prom, one of the only LGBTQ+ youth proms in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Prom is often considered a rite of passage and creates memories that last a lifetime. The Warhol’s Youth Prom offers a safe, gender-inclusive space where LGBTQ+ young people can celebrate with dinner, dancing, and artmaking. Prom is open to young people ages 13–18, and it is planned by a youth committee.

This summertime workshop series for teens explores the art of gender-bending performance under the direction of working performers. School of Drag is open to applicants ages 14-19 who are able to attend most of the sessions, as well as an in-person dress rehearsal and a culminating performance. Applications will be made available online, and applicants will be notified of their acceptance within a week. The Warhol will provide supplies and can provide  transportation support. Please contact teens@warhol.org or for more information.

Student Assistant Program

Teens are not just an audience for The Warhol—they are an essential part of our staff. Student Assistants are youth apprentices who are paid to work in the museum’s education and outreach programs, including Youth Open Studio at Artists Image Resource. They gain real world skills, engage with a creative community, and learn about new artistic processes and approaches.
