Past Event Off the Wall 2012 – Carmelita Tropicana: Homage to Jack & Ole/Ghost

CAL_20111110_carmelina_main

Alina Troyano (aka Carmelita Tropicana) is a Cuban-born, performance artist, playwright and actor whose work has employed humor, fantasy, and cultural identity as subversive tools to rewrite history.  For this one special evening in the Warhol Theater, Tropicana will weave components of two works: Homage to Jack, which reveals her fateful first encounter with the legendary filmmaker and performer Jack Smith (“the godfather of performance art”: Laurie Anderson) and Ole/Ghost,  a story of lost love, obsession and our modern preoccupation with fast fixes.  Upcoming projects include FemMUSEum, as part of Performance Art Matters at the Tate Modern, London 2011, and a performance at the Camp Anti Camp Festival HAU in Berlin 2012.

“Carmelita Tropicana has been lighting up New York’s performance venues with colorful, hilarious, and brain-twisting narratives.”
-Time Out New York

Off the Wall 2012 is supported in part by the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation
