The story begins as meteors bombard Earth.  Mad scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov has a theory that the meteors are originating from the distant planet Mongo.  Dr. Zarkov builds a rocket ship and kidnaps strapping polo player Flash Gordon and beautiful Dale Arden to accompany him to the planet Mongo, where the evil emperor Ming the Merciless plots to destroy Earth.  The rock band Queen recorded the film’s memorable score.
