Events – The Andy Warhol Museum https://www.warhol.org Thu, 29 Feb 2024 18:58:05 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.3 Sound Series: Patrick Higgins https://www.warhol.org/events/sound-series-patrick-higgins/ Thu, 15 Feb 2024 15:00:33 +0000 https://www.warhol.org/?post_type=warhol_events&p=14876 We welcome guitarist, composer, and producer, Patrick Higgins, for a solo performance in the museum’s intimate theater. Known for his work in experimental and contemporary classical music, “Higgins composes with a scholar’s historical perspective and a punk’s sense of abandon” (Pitchfork). His work bridges genres and traditions including baroque chamber music, contemporary noise, and 20th century minimalism and has been performed in over 25 countries internationally at venues and festivals including SFMOMA, Unsound Festival (Poland), Monom Berlin, Sony Ginza Park (Tokyo), and ReWire (Holland). Higgins‘ forthcoming album planned for release in early spring on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label, marks a new direction and development of acclaimed work as a guitarist and composer, drawing on electronic music, free improvisation, and avant-garde modern composition.

30th Anniversary Gala https://www.warhol.org/events/30th-anniversary-gala/ Fri, 09 Feb 2024 19:17:23 +0000 https://www.warhol.org/?post_type=warhol_events&p=14895 Every five years, we celebrate the establishment of the largest single artist museum in North America, in a city that shaped the artist Andy Warhol went on to become.

We will present our 30th Anniversary Gala at Rivers of Steel’s Carrie Blast Furnaces, a National Historical Landmark and vestige of 20th century Pittsburgh. This unique post-industrial venue will dance between legacy and the leading edge as it is presented in conversation with the contemporary pop art of KAWS. Read more about our exhibition KAWS + Warhol.

The gala is a vibrant black-tie event and fundraiser for the museum that is poised to welcome friends of The Warhol from across the globe for an unforgettable evening of creative cocktails, an intimate seated dinner, benefit art auction, and live entertainment by the highly influential and internationally famous band, Devo.

Culminating during the Gala will be an online benefit auction titled Bob’s Picks, personally curated by Bob Colacello, featuring some of the hottest established and emerging artists working today. Proceeds will benefit all aspects of our curatorial practice and education programming.

Sound Series: Jake Xerxes Fussell & Joan Shelley https://www.warhol.org/events/sound-series-jake-xerxes-fussell-joan-shelley/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 15:00:26 +0000 https://www.warhol.org/?post_type=warhol_events&p=14625 We welcome two unique songwriters and guitarists, Jake Xerxes Fussell and Joan Shelley, on a tour together, performing separate sets. Singer, guitarist, and folk music interpreter Fussell has distinguished himself as one of his generation’s preeminent interpreters of traditional (and not so traditional) “folk” songs. By recontextualizing ancient vernacular songs and sources of the American South, he allows them to breathe and speak for themselves and for himself; he alternately inhabits them and allows them to inhabit him.

Joan Shelley is a songwriter and singer who lives near Louisville, Kentucky, not far from where she grew up. She draws inspiration from traditional and traditionally-minded performers from her native Kentucky, as well as those from Ireland, Scotland, and England. Since the 2015 release of her album Over and Even, Shelley has toured extensively, often with guitarist Nathan Salsburg and performing with artists such as Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Wilco, Patty Griffin, and Andrew Bird.

  • Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Please note: Jake Xerxes Fussell‘s performance begins at 8 p.m.
  • This performance is primarily standing room only. Limited seating is available upon advance request. We are committed to offering inclusive, engaging experiences for people of all abilities. To request accommodations to enhance your visit, please contact access@warhol.org or call 412.237.8354.
